Hey nice little app I would just like to suggest that you do so that it is linked up to all the different regions so that not only some people can use this app. I know that North America is a main one but there is also a lot in the other regions so if that would be possible then i think many more people would begin to like this little cool app. And maybe if you find a way to make 3D characters then us users could look at when we are looking at our characters.
I am also adding this post in the app store to see how other people think of these ideas. I really think that many people can’t wait for you to get out of the beta phase and start working on the really cool stuff that us ipod touch and iphone users really want.

  2. christian | July 31, 2008 at 6:14 am | Permalink

Another thing is that you should work on it so it doesn’t keep crashing when you try to add a character…
I would also like to see this app actually in the app store on the ipod touch and iphone asap. It will probably bring up your download numbers to a huge number.

Downloaded and installed this app. The application is a great idea, however i play in the UK and the app seems setup for US servers only. Any chance of euro servers also?

Please dont just support american people, iphone is an international product. Please add a radio button to choose between EU and USA servers so it will work for all WOW players!

I’m hoping to be able to check out my own toons in the near future :D

The app appears to crash when trying to access any character on ‘Kul Tiras’. Is this because of the space between the two words?

Also will this work on European Realms ?

I just stumbled on to your app looking for an podcast. What a great app! It will come in handy when i’m away from the computer, so i can plan on what to work on next! I was also surprise to see Spectrum rage/blade since i am a new member of Rage!

Thanks for making this app. A few issues but I’m sure you are aware of it already (a space in the realm name shuts down the application). For those of you on realms with a space in the name, try adding a “+” where the space should be, this worked for me. I hope you plan to add features that include a way to organize and reorder the characters as well as a drop-down menu for the realms. Looking forward to more updates.

  26. Clarion | July 31, 2008 at 2:37 pm | Permalink

Hey, great app. A couple suggestions I would add (I’ve also made these suggestions on the App Store):

    ~ Show current gear/stats
~ Ability to organize the added characters, either by moving them around in the list, or being able to create groups
~ Ability to view characters without adding them
~ Guild roster and statistics (like number of Humans, number of Warlocks, etc.)
~ Basically any additional information that you can get on the armory currently, though the things I’ve already specifically mentioned would be higher priority to me

Other than that, I love the app! The interface is very nice, and it’s quick at locating info over 3G. Great work!

  27. Braver | July 31, 2008 at 2:39 pm | Permalink

Now I know I am a bad person for having ALT characters in my name, but as servers grow, sometimes thats all I got to work with. Anyways, my main WAR’s name is Bràver (notice the a is an ALT char) on the server Silvermoon. Well it crashes the app whenever I try to add him. Any idea on maybe getting those to work?

I like what is going on so far.

For server names with spaces - the list of servers is fixed, with limited updates by Blizzard. Why not let users choose the server name from a dropdown menu? This way you can code it to send “Khaz+Modan” but the user would click and choose “Khaz Modan” from the dropdown. You can get the names from Blizzard itself, like from http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/realmstatus/status.xml.

  34. Beau | July 31, 2008 at 8:25 pm | Permalink

It looks like a great app. Some of the concepts and features that it can bring are awesome. However, its still buggy. It will not work with characters with 2 word realms. Other then that I would suggest polishing it up, new icon, improvements to the UI, and more communication to the users. I would like to be able to come here once every 3-4 days and see an actual written update of what has been going on. If you really want to do good with this then you gotta act fast. Im sure blizzard will be brining lots of features soon with the upgraded Armory coming down the pipe very soon.
    Kudos!

  36. Ron | August 1, 2008 at 1:09 pm | Permalink

Great app! Crashes when entering special characters in a name though, like: í,ò,ă. Besides that tracks all my characters flawlessly!
And we don’t need European support! Not everyone gets to have everything! They’ve had better cellular handsets for years! Now we should get something they don’t! lol (just kidding people)

Neat app, nice to see my alts in my iPhone.
However, initial excitement for v1.01 waned when it still did not get my Rogue, Artfülslip. Still no way that it reads accented characters.
And still no way to enter those accents (such as Opt-u or Opt-e)
    Sorry.
Oh, and I just tried updating, refreshing, one of my characters. The circle arrow blanked the screen then popped me back to the ‘desktop’.

  45. doublejay | August 4, 2008 at 8:24 pm | Permalink

I just created a problem report on the app store, but yeah, like some others have reported, the app 1.01 crashes when I try to refresh the char data for characters already in my list.

  46. Tom Simpson | August 5, 2008 at 11:08 am | Permalink

If you are seeing crashes when you refresh your character, try removing the character and adding them again. My toons are on a server with a space (Khaz Modan) and I entered them in the 1.0 version of the app with “Khaz+Modan” to make it work. Removing my characters and adding them again with the space in the servername made the refresh work properly.

  48. Peter D.B. | August 5, 2008 at 1:23 pm | Permalink

As mentioned previously: reordering would be nice, an option to automaticall sort alfabetically would also be nice, kind of like address book. As officer in a raiding guild, I have to keep track of lots of toons, the list will get quite big, so some form of ordering is kinda needed. Would also be nice if the selected region zone would persist (i.e. save that I’ve selected the EU zone) and if a default realm persist too (e.g. Doomhammer server).

AWESOME app. I just got my iPhone today (06 Aug 2008) and the app worked perfectly. I’m on Scarlet Crusade, so entering the “two word” realm name was an issue I thought I would have to face, but it was flawless.

    Wonderful idea and execution :-D

    Nice app! Looks great!

I’ve had it on my iPod touch for a few days, and I’m not noticing any stability problems or other bugs. I just have a couple of suggestions:

    - First, I’ll add another vote for organization features like manual ordering and groups.
    - Also, I think a “Refresh All” button on the main screen would be very useful.

Thanks for a cool app! And thanks for the quick enhancements and fixes!

Nice App. However, it seems to crash whenever I try to refresh my characters data. My realm name is “The Scryers” and I’m wondering if the problem is in part to the space in the name as I know that was a problem with adding characters.

  53. Robyn | August 14, 2008 at 1:28 pm | Permalink

I like the fact that you can access your chars offline :) very fun. However, my main has a í (unique character) in her name. Can you make it possible to be able to type accented characters into the name? It’s possible that it’s not something you can do since it’s apple who designed to keyboard, but maybe a solution to that would be to have a search (like the armory) on the application so we can find out chars without worrying about typing the unique characters like á, í, ú, é, ñ, etc.

Very slick little app! One small buglet that probably wants squashing: at least for me, set items show up in the “Items” view as the set name, ie, my Frozen Shadoweave Shoulders, Robe, and Boots each show up as “Shadow’s Embrace” — also “Lola’s Eve” and “Charlotte’s Ivy” each show up as “The Twin Stars.”

    Thanks!

  60. Brian | August 18, 2008 at 4:55 pm | Permalink

I really like the new look. Is there any chance that you could add talent points or even a talent point calculator? Also I know it would be a right pain but for the expansion could you add in pet talent trees and pet family types? It’s a bit hard to compare my Hunter to other classes if I can’t add in my pet DPS (talent spec makes it variable). Also can you get enchants and gem information as well?

    2. Compare items to each other.
    3. Add the 3D character view from wowhead.com
    4. Add a button so you can send a armory link / Warcraft Character link to other iPhone users through email.

I just upgraded to 2.1. Now the application won’t work AT ALL. I launch it, it brings up the “Characters” window, then quits and goes back to my iPhone menu.

I wish I never upgraded. 2.1 is 100% completely unusable.

…and I had been hoping that this would fix the bug where I could not select my character when it was the last one in a long list.

  80. Across | August 27, 2008 at 1:25 pm | Permalink

After installing the Characters 2.1 update for my iPod Touch from the app store, Characters refuses to load. It gets to the screen where it would display actual characters and then goes boom, returning to the Home screen.

Reinstalling the app didn’t work, neither did resetting/powercycling the iPod Touch. Anyone else experiencing similar behaviour?

    Lovely app btw.
