Characters 2.1.2 update posted to App Store

I’ve just submitted the update to the iPhone App Store (it usually takes few days for approval, now it’s a waiting game). This update adds compatibility with the latest expansion:

  • Death Knight class support
  • Level 80 portrait display
  • Item icons bug fix

Now off to the Howling Fjord. Beautiful ambiance, music and visuals… Some of the Forsaken quests are too gruesome, though. Hopefully Cenarion Druids won’t find out what my Tauren did for the Horde. Enjoy the Lich King!

3.0.2 patch and Characters

At least two small updates for Characters are coming soon - 3.0.2 patch changed few things in how armory works, and I suspect even more changes will come when Wrath of the Lich King is released.

Please vote NO on Prop 8

Off-topic post: hey Californians, could you help me with my marriage?

It’s history making time in California - Prop 8 is one of the ballots to be voted on in two weeks that will write this to the CA constitution: ”Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California”. Or in other words, down with the same-sex marriages.

My motive for writing this is very personal: I don’t want Prop 8 to kill *my* marriage. Please don’t let that happen. Don’t let discrimination get into the CA constitution.

Here are the links for the two major sides in this:

http://www.noonprop8.com/ - the good guys.
http://www.protectmarriage.com/ - they protect traditional marriage by killing mine.

New armory inspection app for iPhone

Very promising Warcraft Armory inspection app called Armory Spy Lite is up on the iPhone App Store. Check it out (disclaimer: I didn’t write it, I just happen to like it.)

Characters 2.1.1 up - gems & enchants galore

Warcraft Characters 2.1.1 is available on the iPhone App Store.

Additions include:

  • Character specific item information, including sets, enchants, and gems.
  • Item detail language fix for Asian regions.

Characters 2.1 is released - shwazam

This release added few missing stats (defense & spell hit, apologies to warlocks and tanks), arena team support, and lots of bug fixes. Thanks a lot for reporting these!

Coming up: item set bug fix and corrupted item info with Chinese localization.

Warcraft Characters 2.0 released (updated: feedback)

Characters 2.0 is live on the App Store. We’ve revamped UI, added item and reputation support, character view without need to save, and realm-free search. Enjoy!

Feedback is appreciated - let us know what you’d like to see.

UPDATE: Thanks for the feedback! Here’s what will be added in the next few days: spell hit rating, defense value, arena info, bug fixes. Talents and gem/enchant details will have to wait for next release.

Need help reproducing 1.0.1 crashing bug - SOLVED

I’ve received feedback from several people that 1.0.1 crashes on refresh, and I need help in reproducing it. If Characters 1.0.1 crashes for you, could you let me know: your character name, realm, and region (US, EU, and so on), and how soon the crash happens (were you able to refresh once? did you have to leave the app and come back for crash to occur?).

UPDATE: Reinstalling the app fixes the issue. Bug occurs when 1.0.1 update was applied. Starting with clean slate solves this.

Characters 1.0.1 is live

Warcraft Characters 1.0.1 for iPhone is live on the App Store. Thanks for all the feedback!

Bug fixes are:

  • Support for EU, KR, CN, and TW realms.
  • Bug fix when spaces are used in realm names.
  • Bug fix when accented characters are used in character names.

… and Characters 2.0 is on it’s way. With all this coding, I wonder if my resto shaman will reach 70 before WotLK hits - 38 levels to go. And BTW, resto shaman & prot pally duo: overpowered. We easily cut down 7-8 mobs that are way higher than our level.

I appreciate the feedback, so feel free to hit me at rudip.com [et] gmail [dot] com.

Characters and iPhone App Store - here are the numbers

20 days for approval - I’ve submitted Characters app on July 11th, and it was approved on July 31st. Biggest hurdle was to see if Apple would approve the app - I didn’t want to commit to more development until I was sure Apple would be ok with it. Now that it is, let’s rock.

4,678 downloads on the first day.

256kb is the size of the compiled app.
